Rebecca Peterson is the Postsecondary Readiness Assessment Specialist at the Utah State Board of Education where she is engaged in the important work of furthering equitable opportunities for all students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for success in life after high school. In addition to facilitating the 11th grade statewide ACT and 9th and 10th grade Utah Aspire Plus assessments, Rebecca is involved in the Portrait of a Graduate, the P-20 Competencies, Social and Emotional Learning, and is a member of the High-Quality Instruction Professional Learning Design Team at USBE. Prior to her current role at the Utah State Board of Education, Rebecca was a state implementation coach and project director for the Utah Multi-tiered Systems of Support initiative. In the classroom, Rebecca taught secondary special education, and later taught general education biology, AP, and IB biology, combining her love of science with her desire to help all students succeed in advanced level coursework. Additionally, she has served as a teacher mentor, professional learning community director, and as a school principal. She has been recognized with awards for excellence in teaching, leadership, and research, including national recognition for her work on promoting digital accessibility for all learners. Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Brigham Young University in 1995, her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Weber State University in 2013, and her PhD in Educational Inquiry Measurement and Evaluation with an emphasis in Policy and Program Evaluation from Brigham Young University in 2021.
