As I approach the end of my second year using standards based grading in my high school English classroom, I want to share my strategies, tools and workflow with others. In this presentation, I will walk you step-by-step through my standards based grading program and discuss the reasoning for each step. I will begin with why I decided to make the switch to standards based grading, how to unpack the core, select and write essential standards, create a master rubric for grading, build assessments for class, and give feedback using a gradebook that I’ve developed. My hope is that by the end of our hour together, you will feel confident jumping into the world of standards based grading to help your students know what is expected of them, how their progress will be measured, and where they currently stand in the process.
